World of Warcraft Gathering Professions the Right Way

By Rob | September 22, 2009

World of Warcraft Gathering Professions for new players who want to do it right Making gold has always been one of the most appreciated tasks in World of Warcraft. Players strive day in and out to get as much gold in their accounts as possible to buy the things they need for raiding, building the

ir profiles, creating new characters, and getting their professions capped out. The best way to make gold for many characters is to use their professions and that has not changed in Wrath of the Lich King. You’ll want to know which professions will reward you the most.In this short article  we will focus on only the Gathering Professions. Compared to Crafting, Gathering is extremely simple – for the most part all you do is run around, pick things up and sell them. (Yes, there’s more to it than that but that covers the basics.)Of the gathering professions, pretty much all 3 will get you decent profits pretty fast. One thing is to consider who needs what you gather. Two tips before you start: first, buy the largest bags you can afford. Less trips to sell means more time to gather and quest. That means don’t forget about herb/mining/leather bags. I will swap mine to the bank, so if I’m out for a heavy skinning session I take my big skinning bag instead of one of my frostweave bags. The other tip is to use an addon that helps you track mining and herb nodes. I like Gatherer (Google ‘gatherer addon’, but whatever you use will save you time.* Skinning. The amazing thing about skinning is that you can always find places where other characters have done your work for you. Think of any place where the quest lines have you to kill lots of beasts (eg. Stranglethorn) and you can skin other people’s kills before laughing your way to the bank. [Note: don't be a jerk if someone else is skinning - I think the killer always has first rights to skin.] Nagrand is a gold mine. So is Sholazar Basin. And if you like PvP there are lots of opportunities to kill Horde/Alliance while you are out skinning.   One great moneymaker is armor kits – everyone always need them, however you should always know the AH market price to decide whether its more profitable to make kits or just sell the leather. [*Hot Tip* - check the price of Borean Leather vs Heavy Boran Leather on your server. I can usually buy a stack of Borean for 8g and sell pieces of Heavy for 5. One stack of regular turns into 3 1/3 pieces of Heavy...you do the math.]* Mining is always valuable and an hour of farming ore on a level 80 will get you more than 200g not to mention any gems or prospecting finds. Know when to sell ore and when to smelt it. Make sure you are using Gatherer or another addon that helps you track nodes. Once you set up a trail, your time will drop dramatically. [Tip: I turn off the import nodes feature. It may work better on busy servers but I find myself chasing ghosts with it.]* Herbalism is another great way to make gold and there are generally a few more herbalism nodes in any given zone. All herbs in Northrend will sell for a decent amount of gold due to Inscription and the need to supply everyone with glyphs. Remember who youâ are selling to – everyone needs glyphs (created by pigments created by herbs) – and with the new dual-spec players will need two glyph sets instead of one. Finally, Gathering doesn’t have to be just a grind (get it?). You can do most of it while out questing or killing, Whether you’re Horde or Alliance, leveling or PvP-ing, there’s always something laying on the ground near by that is money in the bank to a Gatherer like you.World of Warcraft Gathering Professions are the best way to start making gold. This brief guide gets you started right.
