There are two factions in World of Warcraft, the Alliance and the Horde. In story terms the alliance is peaceful and is usually defending itself from the Horde races, while the Horde is chaotic and usually aims at destroying the Alliance races. Of course, as many of the Alliance raids are pre-emptive strikes the boundary is very blurred, and the basic result is that both factions go around slaughtering whatever they can catch(hey – it’s a combat game…).

The Alliance Races consist of Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes. Added to the usual cast of good guys is the Draenei(the Burning Crusade Expansion is needed). The Horde consists of Orcs, Tauren(kind of like minotaurs), Undead and Trolls. The Burning Crusade adds a fifth race – the Blood Elves.

Either faction can play the primary classes of Druid, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, and Warrior. The Horde has access to the Shaman class and the Alliance access to the paladin class. As of the Burning Crusade expansion, the faction specific classes have been mixed up – with the new races getting access to the opposite factions limited class. Draenei can play as either paladin’s or Shamans and the Blood Elves can play as Paladin’s.

Class selection is limited by race as follows:

The Alliance

Tip 11-The Barrens.

Most Horde quest lines eventually send players to the Barrens as it contains access to a neutral town where Horde and Alliance players can get together. So to say the least, it is crawling with players. While this is good for making new friends, it is also the most hunted and overcrowded place to be on the Horde side. So do what has to be done and get out.

Tip 12-Level to 10 Quickly by visiting dead people.

Well, to be more accurate, visit the Undead. Quests are not race specific, so players can accept any level quest regardless of race. Which means that Horde players can have access to a sneaky shortcut to level 10. Which means that in the Horde’s case it means high tailing it out to the Orc hub city of Orgrimmar as soon as you survive the trip and catching a zeppelin ride to Tirisfal Glades. From there head south from the tower and go to the Undead town of Brill and start searching for quests. Like Teldrassil for Night Elves and such. The quests in Brill are quite easier and can be usually resolved without to much traveling. Very significantly shorting your trip to level 10.

Tip 13-Unfortunately, the Hordes have the best and worst hub cities.

Both sides of Warcraft have three hub cities designed for players to gather. Buy and sell items and deal with NPC vendors and trainers. They are both blessed and cursed with one of the worst hub cities. The best city to do business in with NPC’s is the Undead Undercity. If you have a choice, this is the one to pick. It’s the smallest major city, meaning you do not have to do a lot of running to get to the shops. Stay out of Orgrimmar, the Orc City.

Tip 14-Join a Horde and stop fighting for elbow room.

For some reason, players choose to play as Alliance characters rather then Horde characters. Horde players rarely see the “mass extinction events” that the Alliance does. Try joining the Horde’s, if your interesting in questing. If you just want to waste time and hang out, join Alliance.

Tip 15-The Undead are just plain Psychotic Cool.

As far as coolness points go, the Undead get kudos of “Coolness Points”. The character models are just way cool in customization via the hairstyles and facial expressions. The Undead lands and zones are filled with very clever asides and humor. Role players will love the Undead, since they are as close as any WoW race comes to being evil. They are always planning universal genocide.

1.) If you want to go solo, get yourself a Night Elf Hunter or a Warlock.

While there isn’t any one particular character template that works perfectly for soloing, this is about the best that there is on the Alliance side. First, there really isn’t any equal level monster in the game that a properly tricked out Hunter can’t tackle one-on-one without breaking a sweat. While Warlocks are a bit more fragile, they have an excellent complement of damage dealing spells that will let them survive – albeit while taking more damage. Unfortunately, many creatures will attack in groups if they notice one of their buddies getting pounded on (Elite creatures are particularly nasty with this).

That’s where pets come in, Any “Pet” class can use their animal (or demonic) companion to do what’s called “crowd control” – basically pulling one creature away from a group and a time and killing it. The Warlock’s Void Walker is particularly good at this. Night Elves quest lines at low levels are also pretty self-contained within the geographically isolated Teldrassil, meaning you never have far to run to reach a quest destination or to retrieve your corpse.

2.) Gnomes have the best (worst) dancing emotes.

Trust me on this one. Simply typing /dance into the game while playing as a gnome will show you what I mean. Gnome dancing is the most offensive thing in Azeroth – rumor has it that the Horde offers 10 gold pieces to anyone who can actually manage to kill a Gnome in PvP during a dance. This makes Gnomes perfect for role-players who want to annoy other players and have a good laugh.

3.) Everyone loves a Human Priest.

This is the perfect class for players looking to group. Humans’ racial talents help a Priest hold his or her own in combat and there isn’t a group alive that isn’t thrilled when a Priest shows up just before heading into an Elite dungeon or an instance. Priests are also pretty rare in the game, there aren’t really all that many players who enjoy taking on the social/support roles, so your skills will always be in demand – and you’ll level pretty fast.

4.) You don’t have follow the quest lines for your own race!

One of the biggest misconceptions that new players have about World of Warcraft is that quests are restricted by race – in other words, that if you’re playing a Human, you must take the “Human” quests in Elwynn Forest when you start out. That’s simply not true. Players can take any level-appropriate quest regardless of their race. For Alliance players looking to level up a bit faster, there is a bit of a shortcut. Simply head to the hub cities of Ironforge or Stormwind as soon as you’re strong enough to get out of the newbie zone (around level 5). From there, find the passage to Teldrassil, the Night Elf homeland and start collecting quests. Teldrassil is very small, contains the hub city of Darnassus that offers every service, and players rarely have to run far to complete quests. You’ll find yourself at level 10 or even higher in no time!

5.) The Alliance means more content, but more people.

For whatever reason, the Alliance races as a whole (Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes) are more popular with players. This can often mean severe crowding in popular regions along with what we like to call “mass extinction events”. That basically means that several quests in the area that require players to kill a particular animal may make it hard to find that animal for a while – and that you may be racing other players who are standing around waiting for them to spawn. The good news is that the Alliance has a lot more quest-based content than the Horde. While this isn’t noticeable at the earlier levels, many Horde players often find themselves running low on quests around level 25-30 and being forced to just “farm” random creatures for experience.

I’ll start off with the two new races that were recently added, the Alliance side received the Draenei. A extraterrestrial race that crash landed on Azeroth, they are the Alliance sides answer to the Tauren, being the biggest race in the Alliance now. Draenei can be Hunters, Mages, Paladins, Priests, Shamans and Warriors.

The Horde received the Blood Elves and magic addicted race of evil elves. Now the Horde has a beautiful race. Blood Elves can be Hunters, Mage, Paladins Priests, Rogues, or Warlocks.

Another cool feature that was added in the latest release was flying mounts, each faction has two flying mount types to choose from in assorted colors, there is a slow version and a fast version. The basic model appears to be a gryphon type creature or a wind rider depending if you are Horde or Alliance. Now you will need to have a certain riding skill to be able to take advantage of these mounts, and for the faster mount a pretty hefty riding skill is needed. You can only use these mounts in the Outland area.

Questing

Clear out your inventory before going questing in the 60+ range, make sure you store all of your unnecessary’s. To make it easier for you on consumables – ie. bandages, scrolls or potions, mail yourself these items from a mule and don’t fill your inventory with more than one stack of them.

Don’t forget to move your Hearthstone, for the Outland area a convenient place is Honor Hold if you are Alliance and Thrallmar if you are Horde. The problem that you might encounter in some of the level 60-61 areas of Outland is the bottlenecks. With the new release 1000’s of people are flooding these areas which are creating bottlenecks especially with the Quests where you have to kill a certain Mob, waiting for it to respawn can really take the fun out of the game at times. Blizzard is trying to deal with this time by regulating the spawn time by the number of people in the area at a given time. More characters in the area cause faster spawn rates.

Instances

The new instances in outland due to the popularity of the Scarlet Monastery and Dire Maul have been made shorter. All of the five man instances in Outland are made along the lines of the ones typically encountered in Azeroth. For the people who like to grind Blizzard has made the groups of mobs with similar abilities in different groups, for instance a priest type character might grind in an area with mobs that have a certain type of magical abilities, while a Fighter character would best grind in an area with mobs of different abilities.

Professions

Jewelcrafting is a new profession that was added in the expansion which allows you to craft rings, amulets and socketable gems, this should end up being a very profitable profession.

Battlegrounds

Battlegrounds are pretty much the same as they were before with a higher level cap and in addition a new Battleground has been added called Eye of the Storm. There are two levels in the new battle ground, 61-69 and level 70. There are 15 players per team and the first team to 2000 points is the winner.

If you are a diehard World of Warcraft fan like I am, The Burning Crusade expansion warcraft world only fans the flames of my obsession with the game.(which is a good thing) High quality content has always been a strong point from Blizzard and they have not failed in their delivery as usual.

Can farm Dabryie’s farm in Arathi Highlands (horde only) for 30 npcs of 2-6 silver each on 3-5 minute spawn timers. Often times not camped. Easily can generate 1-5 World Of Warcraft Gold an hour, more if you are an AOE class.

Can farm Go’Shek farm in Arathi Highlands (alliance only) for 30-40 npcs of 2-6 silver each on 3-5 minute spawn timers. Often times not camped. Easily can generate 1-5 World Of Warcraft Gold an hour, more if you are an AOE class.

You can area of effect the scarlet monastery graveyard (in Tristfall glades northeast corner of map) for a good 2silver – 6 silver per kill. An aoe class can easily farm and reset the instance for a good 30-60 World Of Warcraft Gold an hour.

You can farm warpwoods and deadwoods (funny, walking tree treant guys) for 2-10 silver, rare herb drops that sell for 1-5 World Of Warcraft Gold EACH, major healing potions (sells for 1-1.5 World Of Warcraft Gold each on my server), and Living Essences (sells for 8-14 World Of Warcraft Gold EACH on AH!). The warpwoods are located on the north side of Felwood zone near the alliance flight path person. The deadwoods are located just southwest of where the warpwoods are. I made an easy 40-80 World Of Warcraft Gold an hour depending on AH prices with my 60 PALADIN. If you have any other faster dps class, you can EASILY get DOUBLE the World Of Warcraft Gold per hour I got (I should’ve rolled a different class…. *cries*).

You can farm twilight hammer elites in Searing Gorge. They are located JUST WEST of the alliance/horde flightpoints. You can easily get 3-5 mageweave cloth per drop and about 2silver-16 silver per kill, with 9/10 silver being the most common drop of coin. Easily can make 10 World Of Warcraft Gold per hour off coin drops and 5-20 World Of Warcraft Gold per hour off the green and mageweave drops.

1.) You will end up in the Barrens – accept it.

Throughout the beta process, the one zone that everybody complained about the most was the Barrens, a level 15-20 zone that is quite literally in the center of everything for the Horde. As a result, this zone has the dubious distinction of undergoing almost constant revisions. The good news is, it’s much better than it was – the bad news is, it can still be long and tedious. The thing is, most Horde quest lines eventually send players to the Barrens and it contains access to one of the neutral towns where Horde and Alliance players can get together, so the place is absolutely crawling with players. While that can be good for making friends, it’s also the place that’s the most hunted and overcrowded on the Horde side. Unfortunately, the Barrens is just a fact of life for Horde players – better to go, do what needs to be done, and get out.

The city is also basically a circle – meaning it’s almost impossible to get lost. Orgrimmar, the Orc hub city, on the other hand, is incredibly confusing, with twisting paths that sometime loop back on themselves. Orgrimmar means a lot of running and it’s all too easy to get lost. It’s also kind of the center of the universe for Horde players, so you really do need to learn it if you hope to use the auction or make new friends.

4.) Tired of fighting for elbow room? Join the Horde!

For some odd reason, players seem to choose to play as Alliance characters far more often than as Horde characters. The good news for Horde players, though, is that fewer players mean fewer people jockeying for resources. Even the Barrens, probably the most crowded Horde region, never sees the problems with “mass extinction events” that routinely plague the Alliance. If you’re interested in questing and not interested in hanging around with ten other people (at peak hours) waiting for a monster spawn, join the Horde.

5.) The Undead are just psychotically cool

While everyone has their own opinion, mind is that no World of Warcraft race gets as many “coolness points” as the Undead. First, the character models are just a riot with hairstyles, there physics and a facial customization options are straight out of the Velvet Dungeon. The designers also clearly had a ball putting the Undead lands together because every area and storyline within the Undead zones is filled with clever asides and subtle (and not so subtle) humor about the Forsaken’s unusual situation. Role-players will also enjoy playing the Undead since they’re as close as any World of Warcraft race comes to being “evil”. True – they are an oppressed minority, but they’re also planning universal genocide, so you make your own call.
