Age of Conan Looking to Hit Gold for Game Developer

AoC is the latest MMORPG offering from Funcom, the developer of previous games such as Anarchy Online.

In February of this year, Funcom had the pleasure of announcing a Beta signup population of close to half a million – one of the largest in the history of gaming. The developer had some

success with its initial MMORPG Anarchy Online, with a good turnout upon launch but an inability to monopolize with future expansions. Shadowlands, the game’s most notable addition, received critical acclaim at various levels and rejuvenated the game to new found levels, but could not compete with the dominance of World of Warcraft.

Existing massively multiplayer online roleplaying games are often criticized for being too detached from the gory subjects they are based on. Doing away with the blood and gore for more widespread appeal is not what will happen with Age of Conan.

Hyboria is not a world in which good must triumph over adversity, Age of Conan is different. Age of Conan is an obscure world in which decisions are often hard to make and actions that must be taken prove mentally challenging. Hyboria is worlds apart from games such as World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online.

AoC provides a revolutionary combat system differing wildly from the standard systems of Dungeons and Dragons type systems. This will pose a challenge for most gamers who are only familiar with the click and hotkey system.

AoC could be one of the first major MMORPG episodes to go multi-platform, with implementation planned for at least one major video game console.Age of Conan is truly one for the future and one that will be observed closely by all competitors.
