Learn the Best World of Warcraft Gold Secrets of Trading From The Goblins

By Frank Lucis | January 23, 2010

World of Warcraft Mage of Stormwind from the Journal of Marcus Ty and WoW Gold Guide.

Both Horde and Alliance sects in various domains have survived in somewhat of a harmony with those unusual and possibly criminally insane creatures of incredible business skills called the Goblins. Booty

Bay, Everlook and Gadgetzan are potentially the only places in Azeroth where Alliance and Horde sects can set aside their difference and weapons so commerce can take place without more violence and bloodshed. Products of the craftsmen in both sects can be sold at auction houses that take sides with neither Horde nor Alliance. Over time, a very profitable business in “pet” selling has developed, which pleases the Horde to no end because they are able to acquire their beloved Dun Morgh rabbits which they fancy more tender than tough. While not terribly brilliant, the Goblins are shrewd enough to manage those auctions without incident mostly.

Turn your back not on a Goblin, lest ye back be bloody and your gold be missing, but do praise them their talent for haggle and swap. Believe what you must of Goblins, but watching their cunning exchanges can teach one a thing or two about our own trading abilities.

I give you five of the most important Goblin trading hints:

1) Never be shy while trading.

Lesson 1 teaches that bold and brash gets the cash. If you’ve ever come within shouting distance of a Goblin with something to sell, you understand that they are not afraid to advertise. Booty Bay and Gadgetzan have their own peculiar brand of background noise in the form of Goblin hawkers exclaiming their wondrous specials. The Trade Channel can be abused much like the boardwalks of Booty Bay. Why wouldn’t you shout it from the rooftops if you’ve just created a masterpiece of armor, aptly named it the “Breastplate of Shimmering Silver”, and wish to turn a profit? The customers will be crowding your stand as you cry “Right here, right now, purchase the Breastplate of Shimmering Silver, no better deal to be had!”

Number two: don’t settle for too little money.

Lesson 2 was originally attributed to the Gnomes, but the Goblins have stolen it, revised it, made it better, and marketed it as their own and that is “Don’t undercut yourself.” Set the price higher than the price you would sell your grandmother at provided she is not wearing the Breastplate of Shimmering Silver at the time of her sale. Oh, yeah, but make sure nobody else is selling the item at a much lower price than you are. But avoid looking like a yutz by being the lowest seller. Amateurs and newbies are easily identified by the ridiculous prices they set on their goods. So, teach them a lesson and buy their item to sell at your higher prices. Why not?

3. Steer clear of the opposition.

Lesson 3 was learned from the Elves who do not relish selling in an open market. To simplify, it has been spoken as “a whispered intent”. The Elves will advertise that they have an item for sale, and if you are interested you should contact them directly and discreetly. Using this method requires a certain amount of finesse. The amount is set, then the exchange is completed through the Trade panel.

Number four: look for the traders that are all by themselves.

There are quite a few Goblin traders roaming Azeroth. These type of traders may have one of a kind goodies which the Auction House may see a high price for. The Merchant Supreme Zixil from Booty Bay will be seen roaming Hillsbrad somewhere between the waring towns of Tarren Mill and Southshore. There are plenty of others which you can find from a link at the end of this entry.

5) Seasonal Shifts

It’s quite common to hear the Goblins declaring “fur boots in the summer, sales are a bummer.” They also state “she may be blind, but she can still smell your lunch!” But I digress I mean that the Auction House can only sell what they can when people are in the market for it. For instance, Gingerbread Cookies are a quest item typically during the Winter Veil, so small eggs would fetch a lovely price during that time.

Whether you are Horde or Alliance, take a lesson from the Goblins.
