The Playable Goblins Are Coming In Warcraft Cataclysm.
By Paul Rone-Clarke | February 3, 2010
The Goblins are the new playable race for Horde in the forthcoming Cataclysm expansion. Yes, the same Goblins who man the Zeppelin and Ship docks throughout most of Warcraft at the moment. My first thought on hearing this was \”Well what happens to my Alliance characters rep with Booty Bay
Nothing… is the answer. The Horde Goblins are a schism of the main Goblin race. You will still find your favourite wide grinned cheeky chappies haggling and offering you a lift at all your favourite locations. Personally, I\’m glad about this. I have grown to like the Goblin style. It reminds me of \”CMOT Dibbler\” from Discworld.
The lore behind this schism is that Deathwing returns, and drives those it attacks to the Lost Isles, and into an alliance with the existing horde races.
In keeping with the opening up of classes for all races, Goblins will start with a good selection of; Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, and Warrior. The two most \”spiritual\” classes of Druid and Paladin are left out, and this seems like a good choice.
The Goblins though have been given a total rehaul. More detail, new animations, better textures, you name it. So although they will be recognisable as the Goblins we all know and love, they will be very much sharper in appearance.
The goblin\’s racial abilities are;
Better Living Through Chemistry – 15 point Alchemy boost. Alchemy is the best crafting profession for gold making – mainly because what it makes is consumables. So this fits well with Goblin lore.
Pack Hobgoblin – Amazingly, this perk is the ability to call up a mobile bank and Auction house GUI in the field. To wheel and deal from wherever you are. For gold makers this is an absolutely great perk.
Rocket Barrage – Damage nearby opponents with a barrage of rockets (see, the clue is in the title) No news on cooldown or threat.
Rocket Jump – Jump straight into the enemy, a bit like the Warriors \”charge\” or \”Intercept\” ability. Again, this seems to lead to the idea of tanking.
Time is Money – A straight 1% Attack speed bonus. A passive trait will add a 1% increase to casting and attack speed.
Looking on balance the Goblin seems to lend itself to a role as a \”money making tank\”. A strange mixture, but then that\’s Goblins for you. A lot will depend on the cooldown or Rocket Barrage and Rocket Jump as to what role the Goblin is best suited to.
Goblins look great. They add real personality to the game, and with a wealth of new and exciting talents, it\’s a class I\’m really looking forward to playing.
