Warcraft After Cataclysm. The Changes to WoW Guilds We Can Expect.

By Paul Clarke | February 5, 2010

At a recent press conference, Blizzard unveiled the positive changes that we can expect to see with Warcraft Guilds. Introducing new ideas and features.

For me this has been one area of WoW progression that has been lacking over the years. It\’s supposed to be a social game after all

.

It\’s pretty fundamental. It\’s a massive overhaul in the way guilds work and the whole dynamic of social play. Though it\’s too early to be certain, it looks like very good news indeed.

On logging in after patch 4.0, the first thing you might notice is the new guild GUI. The old style guild communication is gone; this is a whole new system. A screen showing your guild achievements through the various instances is displayed, along with the new achievement point total. Yes guilds now have guild achievement points.

The famous guilds such as WoW Defiance and WoW Relentless are well known for having realm firsts. But only because they tell us. But what about all the other guilds with legendary atonements and realm firsts? Well from Cataclysm they will be prominently displayed on a guild ticker for all members to see. A sort of live CSS feed of events.

One area that I was particularly pleased to see was a system of bonus payments from loots being paid directly into the guild bank. I don\’t know about you, but paying my 5g a day does get a little irksome. So this new system will stop that. You can allocate guild \”talent points3 to a loot bonus that will increase the value and amount of loot you get, but this \”extra\” will be credited straight into your guild bank. Leaving you with the same amount you would always have had.

Finally, the way that guilds deal with professions is due to change. Every member of your guild will have a profession link in the guild tab. No need to call or whisper for a link. You can see what abilities all your guild mates have – right down to item level if they are on line.

Guilds will even get achievements for progressing through professions including a grand achievement for having all professions maxxed out within the guild. Blizzard are taking social gaming and professions seriously. This has to be good news if WoW\’s ascent is to continue. These issues were top of my list of things that needed careful thought, and it\’s great to see that Blizzard are taking some real steps here.

Great news for Warcraft gamers all round.
