Warcraft Patch 3.4 Rumors.
By Paul Clarke | February 5, 2010
With everyone looking forward to Cataclysm, speculation and excitement in the Warcraft forums is certainly pretty rife. Looking at what\’s planned it seems that Blizzard will produce the goods once again.
Leaving that aside, what concerns me is the time scale.
From the informa
So, no major content added between now and the release of Cataclysm (and patch 4.0)
Looking over the evolution of the game, the pattern has been major \”one tenth\” patch increments every 4 months. The longest was 2.4 to 3.0 which was between late March 2008 and early October 2008. Just over 6 months. I don\’t know about you, but I had exhausted everything the Sunwell had to offer, and 3.0 came just in time.
I\’ve checked retail and e-commerce sites and found that the most optimistic date for Cataclysm is \”Quarter 4 2010\”. The average date is \”November 2010\”. Optimistically ten months between content additions. Probably a year.
A year? Now I know Icecrown is a decent instance, and there is still some to be discovered but…\”a year\”.
The expectation in my guild is that we will have done and dusted everything the Icecrown has to offer far sooner than this. Running it again and again to get BiS for Alts and dual spec layouts? Well, there\’s only so often you want to do that.
What does Blizzard think is likely to happen then? Are they likely to let this happen?
In short, no. Let\’s be sensible Blizzard is well aware of the game mechanics and the need for constant progression. It is the absolute lifeblood of Warcraft both as players and for Blizzard financially.
One of two things will happen. either;
There will be a patch 3.4. Re-introducing Troll lore (which has slipped in recent years) and setting the scene for Worgen\’s introduction or…
The Cataclysm expansion will be released in early fall (autumn) no later than September.
Mentioning either of these in Warcraft forums will get you called all the names under the sun. But understand this. Blizzard will not let the game run out of content for high end players (i.e, most players) It just won\’t happen. Running out of content would be a financial disaster for Blizzard, and they know this.
Those are the options as I see them. Unless of course you know different
